"They just don't treat girls like you"

Went to the doctor today to discuss painful periods. She told me, "you probably have endometriosis" and explained that she can't diagnose me or do anything because "they just don't treat girls like you". Why the healthcare system be like this 😭😭

I'm 5 days out from starting my next cycle and I've already had cramps for 2 days. I usually have to call in sick to work if my cycle starts because I can't move. I lay in bed and cry. It's affecting my personal and professional life. But nothing can be done. The "probably" is the part that's the worst because, while the doctor is saying to me I can get on contraceptives or just take some panadol, they don't even know if that's the condition they're trying to manage. And I get that it is probably incredibly difficult to be a healthcare provider right now but I'm just really frustrated at the lack of care I feel going to seek help.

Doc explained that unless I'm trying to conceive, they don't check to diagnose as it's a camera inserted into the tummy. But I could go private and pay $11000 to get checked 🫠

My experience is probably very minor to a lot of people going through healthcare at the moment. I just wanted to have a lil vent about it. Can be very difficult to see any positive outcome when I'm just another one in and out in the day.

Edit: thank you all so much for sharing yours/your close ones experiences. I feel so much less alone now. I've kept this to myself for so long but I will definitely start reaching out and I will try again and again and again until I'm heard
