Seasons tied to movies
I was listening to the Yellowjackets Buzz podcast and they theorized that if 1988’s Beaches was the movie theme for season one, then after Misty’s gift and Shauna literally hitting Lottie hard, 1989’s Steel Magnolias has been the theme movie for this season.
They then speculated that 1995’s Waiting to Exhale might be season 3’s theme movie. But I started looking at 1990 movies since the first two were 88 and 89 releases.
None of them fit quite like Beaches or Steel Magnolias but here are a few I found humorous and/or interesting:
Quigley Down Under - Sharpshooter Matt Quigley (M. Quigley!) is hired from Wyoming by an Australian rancher paying a very high price. But when Quigley arrives Down Under, all is not as it seems.
Lord of the Flies - (A little on the nose) Stranded on an island, a group of schoolboys degenerate into savagery.
Flatliners - (also a little on the nose) Five medical students experiment with "near death" experiences, until the dark consequences of past tragedies begin to jeopardize their lives.
Misery - After a famous author is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels, he comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse.
The Crawlers - People from a small town are attacked by evil radioactive tree roots growing in the forest.
Tremors - Natives of a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.
Awakenings - The victims of an encephalitis epidemic many years ago have been catatonic ever since, but now a new drug offers the prospect of reviving them.
Wild at Heart - Young lovers Sailor and Lula run from the variety of weirdos that Lula's mom has hired to kill Sailor.
The Witches - A young boy stumbles onto a witch convention and must stop them, even after he has been turned into a mouse.
The Handmaid’s Tale - Under a dystopian religious tyranny, most women cannot conceive children. Those young women who can live in a form of sexual slavery to provide children for influential families.
Presumed Innocent - As a lawyer investigates the murder of a colleague, he finds himself more connected to the crime than anyone else.
Miller’s Crossing - Tom Reagan, an advisor to a Prohibition-era crime boss, tries to keep the peace between warring mobs but gets caught in divided loyalties.
Truly Madly Deeply - A woman dealing with inconsolable grief over the death of her partner gets another chance when he returns to earth as a ghost.
The Juniper Tree - Margit and her older sister, Katla, flee their homeland after their mother is killed for practicing witchcraft. Needing a place to stay, Katla casts a spell over a young farmer named Jóhann which makes him fall in love with her.
