Can I drive to the mechanic with a flashing check engine light?

I was at a stop light and the car started idling weird (kind of vibrating, nothing crazy but like a rumble), the check engine light came on and started flashing for about 10 seconds, it went away and I just kept driving home for about 5 miles since I didn't really know what it was (car noob). I thought it was some error that had gone away but apparently it's a more serious issue?

Is it fine to drive to the mechanic that is 2 miles away? The light and rumble feeling only lasted about 10 seconds
